Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline including divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the latest installment of this adventure follow below.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the main group to begin their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team includes Teor (played by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might appear out of place, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the team knows exactly where to head next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, striking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.

Casimir then cleared his debts and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks vengeance.
  • Kattigan knows the region and warns that it is a nasty location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could assist the group access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter pledged a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control the city for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:

  • Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The healer defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.

This results in them little choice but to head to Timmony in search of Casimir.

What’s Next?

From episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to assemble the Seekers and Planners parties.

Viewers can look forward to discovering which characters will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
